Stand at the end of it and the movement runs the length of the board in long ribboned waves. It's a technique, not an accident, and it does something a straight stain can't: it gives a mass-produced 1940s case piece the surface presence of a much more expensive one. The original wood tone has been left in place along the lower section, so the piece grades from red at the top down into warm brown at the base — a deliberate two-tone that keeps all that color from going heavy.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003eUnderneath the finish, the form is the good one. A serpentine bow front sweeps across both drawer banks. Rope-twist pilasters run the corners.
