Lenox “Laurent” 24K Gold-Rim Bread & Butter Plates (Trenton, NJ, c. 1960s)

The Piece

A refined stack of Lenox “Laurent” bread & butter plates in classic ivory bone china, finished by hand with a brilliant 24-karat gold rim. The faces feature an elegant radiating embossed swirl that pulls light to the edge, giving these small plates a surprisingly luxe presence. Minimalist, warm, and unmistakably mid-century Lenox—perfect for pastries, fruit, or layered display.

Design & Construction

Form & Style:
Round, low-profile plates with a softly scalloped rim and embossed sunburst/swirl field terminating at a luminous gold band. Clean and modern, designed to mix seamlessly with plain ivory or other Lenox gold-band patterns.

Material:
Lenox ivory bone china—light yet durable and slightly translucent—hand-decorated with 24-karat gold at the rim (not microwave-safe).

Mark:
Underside printed in gold with the Lenox laurel-wreath “L” and “Made in U.S.A.” Several retain the original silver foil sticker reading “Hand Decorated with 24-K Gold.” Backstamp dates align with mid-century U.S. production.

Introduced in the mid-20th century, Laurent distilled Lenox’s aesthetic to its essentials—creamy ivory, quiet texture, and real gold—suited to the streamlined elegance of post-war American entertaining.

Condition

Excellent vintage condition. Bright glaze, crisp embossing, and continuous gold with only minimal, age-appropriate surface wear; no chips, cracks, or repairs observed. Foil stickers present on some pieces.
