Product Overview

The Piece

A sculptural Art Deco glass table lamp featuring a stepped, geometric body rendered in richly saturated teal glass. Strongly vertical in form yet softened by rounded edges, this lamp captures the essence of early 20th-century Deco design—where geometry, color, and modern materials converged to create objects that were both functional and architectural.

Even when unlit, the lamp reads as a standalone object. When illuminated, the glass deepens in tone, shifting from blue-green to near emerald depending on the light. It is confident, composed, and unmistakably of its era.

Design & Construction

→ Molded glass body with stepped, tiered profile
→ Deep teal / blue-green glass with high clarity and depth
→ Circular metal base with clean, understated trim
→ Standard harp and socket configuration
→ Electrified and updated for modern use

The stepped silhouette is a hallmark of Art Deco design, emphasizing verticality and rhythm while avoiding excess ornament. The glass is thick and evenly cast, with no visible cracks or structural flaws.

The lamp has been responsibly updated with later electrical components by Leviton, a long-established American maker of lighting hardware. These components reflect a later service update rather than original manufacture and are consistent with how period lamps have been safely maintained over time.

Shade

The current fabric drum shade is a later addition. Neutral in tone and simple in form, it complements the lamp without competing with the glass body. The shade provides soft, even illumination and allows the color and geometry of the lamp to remain the focal point.

As with most antique lamps, shades are considered interchangeable elements rather than fixed components.

Historical Context

Art Deco lighting of the 1930s embraced modernity through bold geometry, rich color, and machine-age optimism. Glass table lamps like this were designed to feel contemporary, forward-looking, and visually self-assured.

Rather than relying on ornament, Deco lamps emphasized form and proportion, making them especially adaptable to modern interiors today. This example reflects that philosophy precisely—graphic without being severe, decorative without being ornate.

Condition

Very good vintage condition.

→ Glass body intact with no cracks or chips
→ Stable base and structure
→ Updated wiring in good working order
→ Minor surface wear consistent with age

All wear is appropriate and does not detract from the lamp’s visual impact or function.

Why It Belongs in Your Home

This is a lamp that holds its own.

It belongs on a desk, a console, or a side table where form matters as much as light. It pairs effortlessly with both antique and contemporary interiors, adding color and structure without nostalgia overload.

For collectors new to Deco—or seasoned ones who appreciate restraint—this lamp offers clarity, confidence, and presence.
