Product Overview
The Piece
A charming mid-century Lucite-style desk pen holder, dating to approximately c. 1950s–1970s, with the strongest read around the 1960s. The piece features a white acrylic base, a clear faceted acrylic or resin block with embedded orange-red roses and green leaves, and a brass-tone pen socket mounted to the side.
The floral block has a paperweight-like quality, catching light through its angled sides while preserving the roses inside the clear form. The white base gives it a clean desk-set look, while the brass-tone pen holder adds warmth and contrast. Naturally, the pen itself has vanished, because the universe has a personal vendetta against complete desk accessories.
This is best used as a decorative desk object, vintage office accessory, vanity accent, or small shelf styling piece.
Historical Context
Lucite and acrylic desk accessories became especially popular in the postwar mid-century period, when plastics moved from purely industrial use into the world of home decor, office goods, and giftware. By the 1950s and 1960s, acrylic objects were commonly used for paperweights, desk sets, vanity pieces, letter holders, and novelty gifts.
Embedded floral resin pieces were especially popular as sentimental decorative objects. They offered the look of preserved flowers in a modern transparent material, blending softness with the clean, futuristic appeal of acrylic. This pen holder fits that mid-century decorative giftware category beautifully: practical, bright, floral, and slightly theatrical in the way only old desk objects manage to be.
The brass-tone socket shows oxidation and patina, supporting an older mid-century date rather than a newer office reproduction.

This should be sold as a decorative pen holder or desk accessory only, with the pen missing.
Why It Belongs In Your Home
This is a small piece, but it has a surprisingly strong decorative presence. The embedded roses bring color and softness, while the Lucite-style block and white base keep it feeling crisp and graphic. It works well on a writing desk, vanity, bookshelf, reception counter, or layered office vignette.
Use it as a pen holder with a replacement pen, a paperweight-style accent, or simply as a sculptural little desk object. It pairs especially well with vintage stationery, brass accessories, old books, perfume bottles, and moody office styling.
It has the optimism of mid-century giftware, back when someone thought, “Yes, flowers trapped in plastic will improve paperwork.” Annoyingly, they were kind of right.
