The Design

Early 20th-Century Silver Overlay Glass Tazza, Gilt-Rimmed Footed Compote, c. 1910s–1930s

A refined early 20th-century glass tazza with a shallow footed form, gilt banding, and an ornate silver overlay border around the rim. The piece has a light, architectural presence, with its clear glass body catching shadow and reflection while the decorative rim adds a formal, almost ceremonial edge.

The Design

This compote is defined by its restraint. The low pedestal base, flared bowl, and delicate gilt rings give the piece a graceful silhouette, while the raised silver overlay border introduces a layer of old-world ornament without overwhelming the glass.

The rim features scrolling foliate detail and shield-like cartouches, creating a lace-like pattern when viewed from above or through direct light. It is the kind of piece that works beautifully as a table centerpiece, vanity catchall, entryway vessel, or quiet decorative object on a shelf or console.

Condition & Provenance

Early 20th century, c. 1910s–1930s. Maker unknown. The piece appears to be clear glass with gilt banding and silver overlay decoration.

Condition is consistent with age and use. The glass shows light surface wear, with expected rubbing to the gilt details and areas of patina, darkening, and minor loss to the silver overlay. No major structural damage is visible. The age-related wear gives the piece depth and character without diminishing its display presence.

Why It Belongs In Your Home

This is a small-scale statement piece with genuine atmosphere. The silver overlay catches light beautifully, while the low footed shape gives it enough structure to stand alone without needing to be filled or styled heavily.

Use it for wrapped candies, jewelry, keys, matchbooks, dried citrus, or simply leave it empty where the light can move through it. Some pieces try too hard to be decorative. This one simply understands the assignment.

Why It Endures

Surviving examples in this condition are increasingly scarce. Each piece in the Eclection is chosen not just for its age, but for the quality of its making — the craftsmanship that allowed it to endure decades of use and still arrive here, intact and beautiful.

"A collectible heirloom with enduring value — crafted in an era when furniture was designed not just to serve, but to inspire."

This is not decoration. It is history made liveable.
