The Design
A graceful four-panel Japanese folding screen featuring a hand-painted floral composition on shimmering gold silk. White blossoms and vibrant orange flowers unfold across the panels in a continuous composition, accented by soft green foliage and delicate brushwork that creates movement without overwhelming the restrained elegance of the design.
The gold silk ground catches ambient light with a subtle sheen, allowing the painting to shift in tone throughout the day. Black lacquered wood borders frame each panel, while decorative brass corner fittings provide both protection and a refined architectural finish.
Signed with Japanese calligraphy and a traditional red artist’s seal, the screen reflects the enduring influence of Japanese decorative painting, where balance, negative space, and seasonal botanicals are valued as highly as the subjects themselves.
Condition & Provenance
Likely produced in Japan during the mid-20th century, approximately c. 1950s–1970s, as a hand-painted decorative folding screen.
The silk panels remain vibrant with crisp floral detail and a luminous gold background. The screen retains its original black lacquer frame, brass corner hardware, and folding construction. Minor age-related wear, light handling marks, and small imperfections to the frame and silk are consistent with vintage use and do not detract from the overall presentation.
The work bears a Japanese artist’s signature and red seal; however, the specific artist has not been conclusively identified and is therefore left unattributed.

Why It Belongs In Your Home
A folding screen is one of the easiest ways to introduce architectural interest into a room. Whether displayed on a console, incorporated into a bookshelf, used as a tabletop backdrop, or opened as a freestanding accent, this piece brings warmth, texture, and quiet sophistication.
The combination of gold silk, delicate florals, and traditional Japanese composition makes it equally at home in minimalist interiors, collected traditional spaces, or eclectic rooms layered with antiques and fine art. It is decorative without being loud, refined without feeling formal, and timeless enough to outlast whatever decorating trend is currently convincing people that beige is revolutionary.
Every piece is packed with professional-grade materials: multiple foam layers, double-boxing, directional and fragile handling labels. For large furniture we use custom timber crating. We photograph packing before dispatch and can provide images on request.

All antique and vintage items are sold as described and all sales are final. Each listing includes detailed condition notes and photographs so you can make a fully informed decision. We encourage buyers to ask questions — about condition, dimensions, finish, provenance — before purchasing.
Antiques are irreplaceable and one-of-a-kind. Carrier handling is outside our control once a piece has left our facility, and major carriers including FedEx do not insure antiques. We do everything within our power to ensure safe transit, but cannot accept liability for carrier damage. If damage occurs in transit, we will provide full documentation to support your carrier claim.
