The Piece
Architectural in form and quietly dramatic in execution, this substantial cast metal table lamp draws inspiration from traditional East Asian decorative arts while embracing the clean, sculptural sensibilities of Mid-Century design. The faceted baluster body is richly cast with alternating panels of stylized cranes, cloud motifs, and repeating seigaiha (blue wave) patterns, all finished in a warm antiqued bronze patina.
Its octagonal pedestal base and geometric neck create a strong vertical profile, while the detailed relief work rewards close inspection. Shown here with a contemporary pleated drum shade, the lamp emits a warm, ambient glow that complements both traditional and modern interiors.
Whether styled on a console, sideboard, library cabinet, or entry table, it serves equally well as lighting and as a sculptural decorative object.
History
During the 1960s and 1970s, Japanese and Asian-inspired decorative objects became immensely popular in North America. Designers embraced motifs rooted in traditional Japanese symbolism, including cranes representing longevity, clouds symbolizing good fortune, and the repeating seigaiha wave pattern associated with resilience and tranquility.
Rather than reproducing historical forms exactly, manufacturers blended these motifs with Mid-Century architectural geometry, producing lamps that worked effortlessly alongside Danish Modern, Hollywood Regency, and contemporary interiors.
The faceted construction, crisp relief casting, and restrained bronze finish place this example firmly within that period of design.
Condition & Provenance
Very good vintage condition.
The cast metal body remains structurally sound with an attractive aged bronze finish that has developed light, even wear consistent with age. Minor surface marks and finish variation contribute to its authentic vintage character. The lamp has been professionally cleaned and presents beautifully. Shade shown for styling purposes.

All antique and vintage items are sold as described and all sales are final. Each listing includes detailed condition notes and photographs so you can make a fully informed decision. We encourage buyers to ask questions — about condition, dimensions, finish, provenance — before purchasing.
Antiques are irreplaceable and one-of-a-kind. Carrier handling is outside our control once a piece has left our facility, and major carriers including FedEx do not insure antiques. We do everything within our power to ensure safe transit, but cannot accept liability for carrier damage. If damage occurs in transit, we will provide full documentation to support your carrier claim.
