The Piece
This is an original mid-century demilune side table by Mersman, thoughtfully refinished by Viridian Eclection as part of The Hinchman Collective.
The half-moon silhouette is classic Mersman. Light, architectural, and restrained. Slender tapered legs support a softly curved top, balanced by a lower shelf that mirrors the form above. A single drawer anchors the piece visually, detailed with a carved central motif and flanked by understated ring pulls.
The finish is where this table becomes distinctly Viridian.
A deep cherry tone was introduced to enhance the natural grain and bring warmth and gravity to the form, while preserving the table’s original proportions and period-correct character. Nothing was altered for trend. Nothing was softened for comfort. The goal was clarity. Structure. Presence.

Historical Context
By the mid-20th century, Mersman had become one of America’s most recognizable furniture manufacturers, known for producing well-designed, accessible pieces that balanced traditional craftsmanship with modern living. Demilune tables were especially popular during this period, offering elegance without bulk and fitting naturally into entryways, sitting rooms, and transitional spaces.
Mersman’s success came from strong proportions and repeatable forms rather than excess ornamentation. This table reflects that philosophy. The carved drawer detail adds restraint, not decoration for decoration’s sake. It was designed to live quietly in a room and last.
The Hinchman Collective builds on that foundation by preserving original craftsmanship while introducing layered, time-respectful finishes. The cherry tone used here reflects the Collective’s grounding palette: warm, saturated, and honest to the wood beneath.
Why It Belongs In Your Home
Because it brings weight without heaviness.
This table works seamlessly as:
→ an entryway anchor
→ a side table beside a chair or sofa
→ a bedside table with depth
→ a transitional piece that connects rooms
The cherry finish adds richness while remaining neutral enough to live comfortably alongside both modern and traditional interiors. It doesn’t announce itself. It earns its place.
This is furniture with good bones, restored with intention, and finished to live in a modern space without losing its past.
