This vintage set of Chinese cloisonné Baoding balls reflects the enduring tradition of functional decorative objects crafted for both tactile use and symbolic meaning. Likely dating to the mid-20th century, the set features two hand-finished cloisonné spheres housed in their original silk-lined presentation box.

Each ball is finished in a deep emerald-green enamel ground, overlaid with copper wire cloisonné work forming a stylized yin–yang motif. The contrasting ivory and black enamel elements are balanced and fluid, outlined in warm copper-toned wire that gives the design its structure and definition. Subtle surface variations and minor irregularities in the enamel are consistent with hand-applied cloisonné work rather than modern factory production.

The fitted box is wrapped in patterned textile with a brass clasp closure and retains its interior lining, along with a paper insert bearing Chinese characters—an element that adds context and authenticity to the set’s origin and use.
