    Common questions

    Before you ask

    What does consigning cost me?

Nothing to submit, and nothing up front. On our own floor and website, our fee is 35% and you keep 65%. On Faire, our wholesale channel, that split inverts — see the question below. Either way we earn only when the piece sells, and the split is calculated on net proceeds after platform fees and shipping.

Do you buy outright instead of consigning?

For single pieces under $50, usually yes. Below that figure the paperwork costs more than the split is worth to either of us, so we would rather pay you on the spot. Note it in the form and we will quote both ways.

What is Faire, and what happens if my piece sells there?

Faire is a wholesale marketplace where independent retailers — design shops, boutiques, other galleries — buy from brands like ours. It is the only wholesale channel we work with, and it puts your piece in front of buyers who would never find our floor in Reno.

Because it is wholesale, pieces list on Faire at roughly half their retail price so the buying shop has margin to resell. Faire also takes a commission and processing fee on every order. To make the channel viable the split inverts there: on a Faire sale you receive 35% and we retain 65%, calculated on net proceeds after Faire’s fees and any shipping.

We offset this by pricing pieces destined for Faire higher than we would on our own floor, so the halving starts from a larger number. We will tell you the wholesale figure before anything is listed.

Faire placement is optional. We ask before listing any piece of yours there, and you may decline without affecting anything else in the agreement — the piece simply stays on our floor and website at the standard 65/35 split.

    Who pays for restoration?

Routine cleaning and minor stabilisation are on us — they are part of what the 35% buys. Anything beyond that is quoted before work begins and never starts without your written approval.

If you approve, Walter logs the hours at the bench at [[$XX]] per hour and they are deducted from your share at settlement, never exceeding the quoted figure. If you decline, we list the piece as found and price it accordingly. You will always see the number before deciding.

Do you hold the piece, and does that cost anything?

Only if the piece is local and physically with us — either you asked us to hold it in store, or it is part of local inventory we already have on hand. In that case the first 90 days are free. After that a holding fee of 25¢ per day accrues, settled against the sale.

If that fee passes $50, the piece comes off the showroom floor but stays listed online and keeps selling. If the piece stays with you until it sells, there is no storage fee at all.

How does the piece get to you?

That part is yours to arrange. We do not collect, transport, or crate — no pickup service, and no shipping quoted on our side. Drop off by appointment once the piece is accepted, or arrange your own carrier and we will receive it.

For pieces we never physically hold, nothing changes about the terms except that no storage fee can accrue.

    Who sets the price?

We propose a figure supported by comparable sales and appraisal records, and agree it with you before listing. We will not list above what the comparables support — an overpriced piece sits, and a piece that sits helps neither of us.

What if I don't know the maker or the era?

Submit anyway. Attribution is our work, not yours — send clear photographs of any marks, labels, stamps, or signatures and we will do the research.

Can I consign an entire estate?

Yes. Note the approximate count in the form rather than listing every piece. We will arrange a walkthrough — in person if you are local to Reno, by video if you are not.

How will I know when it sells?

You receive a link to the listing the day it goes live, and notice at the point of sale. Payment follows within [[XX]] days of the transaction clearing.

    Rather bring it to us?

Some pieces are better read in person. We set aside time in the Reno showroom for consignors with a lot to place.
