About the Artwork
Fragonard was one of the leading artists of the Rococo period, known for his playful, ornate, and often romantic works. Unlike his more elaborate compositions, A Young Girl Reading is a quiet and intimate portrait, capturing a young woman in a bright yellow dress, absorbed in her book. The soft brushwork and warm tones highlight refinement, leisure, and private contemplation — hallmarks of 18th-century aristocratic culture.
