The Piece
A characterful one-of-a-kind jewelry chest, custom-built from an antique Victorian marble-top washstand and given an entirely new life. The base keeps its original character — turned legs, reeded edges, and gilded carved leaf accents at the corners — while a slab of creamy, softly veined marble crowns the top, fitted into a compartment that now holds rings, chains, and small treasures. Below, the original paneled cabinet door opens for a second layer of storage. Finished in a warm walnut tone, it's part furniture, part keepsake box — a functional little chest with genuine antique bones and a marble crown.
History & Provenance
This piece began as an antique Victorian marble-top washstand, c. late 19th century — the marble top made to withstand a wash basin and pitcher, the lower cabinet built to tuck necessities away, all on turned legs with Eastlake-style carved and gilded accents. Reimagined by hand, it's been given a second life as a jewelry chest: where the marble had broken, the top was carefully reworked and resized so the slab seated cleanly again, now serving as the lid of a fitted jewelry compartment, with the original cabinet below for more storage. Not a factory reproduction and not an untouched antique — a singular, handcrafted piece that rescued a genuine Victorian washstand and gave it a graceful new purpose.

Why It Belongs in Your Home
The rare piece that's as useful as it is beautiful. Stand it beside a bed or in a dressing area as a jewelry chest with a marble surface for a lamp, a tray, or a vase; use the lift-top for everyday jewelry and the cabinet below for the overflow. It works equally as a nightstand, an accent table, or a statement storage piece — and because it's one of a kind, no one else will have it. A handmade original with genuine Victorian bones and a marble crown, saved from a washstand's retirement and given a second act.
