Product Overview
The Piece
A refined antique English serving set by Alfred Meakin, featuring the maker’s elegant “Osiris” decoration on Royal Semi-Porcelain. This 7-piece set includes one large serving bowl and six matching individual bowls, each designed with a scalloped octagonal rim, molded relief accents, cobalt blue borderwork, gilt detailing, and delicate floral transfer decoration in warm yellow, orange, green, and soft blush tones.
The pattern has a beautifully layered presence: formal enough for a collected dining table, but charming enough to display casually in a hutch, open shelving, or vintage tablescape. The cobalt and gilt rim gives the set its richness, while the floral detailing softens the overall look with a distinctly late Victorian to Edwardian sensibility.
This is the kind of antique tableware that feels collected, not simply owned. Civilization may be questionable, but at least the bowls survived.
History
Alfred Meakin was one of England’s notable Staffordshire pottery manufacturers, producing durable and decorative earthenware and semi-porcelain tablewares for both domestic and export markets. The “Royal Semi-Porcelain” mark was commonly used across English ceramics during the late 19th and early 20th centuries to describe refined, ironstone-like ceramic bodies that offered both strength and elegance.
This set bears an Alfred Meakin Ltd. England backstamp with the “Osiris” pattern name, placing it most appropriately in the late Victorian to Edwardian period, c. 1897–1913. The decorative language reflects the period’s taste for shaped rims, molded relief, cobalt borders, gilt accents, and romantic floral transfer designs.

Why It Belongs In Your Home
This Alfred Meakin “Osiris” set brings a rare balance of utility and decoration. The large serving bowl pairs beautifully with the six individual bowls, making the set ideal for berries, compotes, desserts, chilled salads, nuts, or simply as a styled display piece in a collected kitchen or dining room.
The scalloped form and cobalt border give the set architectural interest, while the floral transferwork adds warmth and delicacy. It works especially well layered with antique white ironstone, English transferware, brass candlesticks, linen napkins, and dark wood furniture.
For collectors, the complete 7-piece arrangement gives this set stronger appeal than a single orphaned bowl, because apparently tableware is more dignified when it travels in formation
