The Piece

A quietly essential thing: a turned and carved hardwood display stand, the sort that lifts a vase, ginger jar, bowl, or small sculpture off the tabletop and gives it the dignity of a proper base. The top is recessed in a shallow ring to seat and steady whatever it holds; the sides are carved with a pierced apron of scrolling motifs and stand on short integral feet.
