The Piece
An early 20th-century amber glass and wood lantern, originally produced as a hanging or architectural light fixture, now thoughtfully adapted for use as a table lamp. Constructed with thick, textured amber glass panels housed within a hand-worked wood frame and secured with early metal fasteners, the piece reflects a transitional moment between late Arts & Crafts sensibilities and early modern electrification.
Rather than concealing its origins, the lantern’s conversion allows its structure and materials to remain fully visible—celebrating both its original purpose and its current function as sculptural ambient lighting.
Design & Construction
Architectural Lantern Body, Later Converted to Table Lamp
→ Date: c. 1910s–1930s
→ Materials: Thick textured amber glass, solid wood framing, metal hardware
→ Form: Faceted lantern / column silhouette
→ Original Use: Hanging or architectural light fixture
→ Current Use: Table lamp conversion with internal light source
The lantern was originally engineered for suspension, evidenced by its tension-based top ring and internal cross-bracing. The present configuration allows light to illuminate both the interior and surrounding space, preserving the lantern’s original glow-driven intent while making it suitable for tabletop display.
Condition
Very good antique condition, consistent with age and use. The amber glass panels are intact and evenly set. The wood frame shows authentic wear, oxidation, and patina developed over decades, contributing to the piece’s depth and character. Metal components display age-appropriate surface wear. The lamp functions properly in its current configuration.
Why It Belongs in Your Home
Because this isn’t just lighting—it’s architectural salvage with a second life. This piece works as a statement lamp in an entryway, on a credenza, or in a moody interior where texture and materiality matter more than ornament. It appeals to designers and collectors alike: those who value objects that have evolved rather than remained static.
It’s not pretending to be untouched. It’s better than that.
Every piece is packed with professional-grade materials: multiple foam layers, double-boxing, directional and fragile handling labels. For large furniture we use custom timber crating. We photograph packing before dispatch and can provide images on request.

Antiques are irreplaceable and one-of-a-kind. Carrier handling is outside our control once a piece has left our facility, and major carriers including FedEx do not insure antiques. We do everything within our power to ensure safe transit, but cannot accept liability for carrier damage. If damage occurs in transit, we will provide full documentation to support your carrier claim.
