The Piece
Rich ruby cathedral glass, hand-soldered lead came, and an integrated crystal prism transform this handcrafted stained glass suncatcher into a study in light. Rather than relying on painted imagery, the maker allows color, texture, and refraction to become the artwork itself.
Suspended in a sunny window, the deep crimson glass glows with remarkable saturation while the internal faceted prism projects starburst rainbows across nearby walls and floors. The long, architectural form gives the piece a distinctly modern studio aesthetic while remaining timeless enough for traditional interiors.
Signed by the artist along the lower edge of the glass, this is an authentic American studio glass work from the height of the handcrafted stained glass movement.
History
Studio stained glass experienced a major renaissance throughout North America during the 1970s as independent artists embraced Tiffany-inspired techniques while exploring more modern, geometric forms. Small workshops produced one-of-a-kind window hangings using hand-cut textured glass, soldered lead came, and occasionally suspended crystal prisms that transformed sunlight into moving patterns throughout the home.
Unlike mass-produced decorative glass, signed studio pieces from this period were individually fabricated by hand, making subtle variations in soldering and glass selection part of each work's character.

Why It Belongs In Your Home
This piece comes alive only when sunlight reaches it. The textured ruby glass shifts from deep garnet to luminous crimson throughout the day, while the hidden prism casts intricate spectral patterns that change hour by hour. It functions equally well as stained glass artwork and as kinetic light sculpture.
