The Piece
A pedestal stand in glossy white Italian ceramic, molded in deep relief: a braided wheat wreath circles the well, ringed by radiating flutes, with an outer border of fruiting garlands slung between ribboned staves. The pedestal repeats the braid at its foot. All of it reads in pure white — ornament carried entirely by shadow, the trick Italian whiteware has been playing since the eighteenth century — and the glaze is bright, even, and unworn.
History & Provenance
Made in Italy for Over and Back, the American tableware house that has imported Italian-made whiteware since 1978. The design borrows honestly from the creamware tradition — Leeds and Wedgwood built the vocabulary of braid, flute, and harvest garland in the 1780s, and Italian potteries have kept it in production ever since. This is a contemporary piece in that lineage: made in Italy, molded with real depth, and meant to be used. We're an antiques shop, so we'll say it plainly — this one is modern, priced like it, and included because it earns its place on a table.

Why It Belongs in Your Home
Because cake deserves elevation and white goes with every kitchen ever built. The relief molding does the decorating — layer cake, cheese wheel, a pyramid of clementines, a candle cluster in December — and the glaze shrugs off frosting and knife work because it was made this century to do exactly that. It also plays perfectly beside genuinely old whiteware: set it next to Victorian ironstone and only the backstamp knows the difference.
