The Piece
An oval jewelry display frame with a softly scalloped outer edge, the frame ivory or cream toned with gold tone ornamental detailing.
The center is faced in a black velvet style display surface, set behind the decorative molded frame. The palette is ivory, gold and black, and the contrast between the pale frame and the dark ground is the point of the design.
The reverse carries wall hanging hardware, and an easel style metal stand allows it to be used on a tabletop. The backing panel may be removable or fixed.
History & Provenance
The frame carries no maker's mark and no date, so nothing can be attributed and the period is left open.
The styling is romantic and French inspired, drawn from antique dressing room decoration on one side and boutique visual merchandising on the other. The scalloped oval and applied gilt flourishes belong to that decorative vocabulary rather than to any identified workshop.
