The Piece
A refined set of antique Minton plates in the grand English manner. Over a warm ivory ground, each is banded at the rim with a turquoise "jeweled" border set with cross-and-quatrefoil cartouches and hand-tinted floral roundels, while polychrome swags of pink, yellow, and coral blossoms garland the well and a single delicate bouquet centers the plate. The edge is finished in a rich iron-red line. Marked to the reverse with the Minton globe stamp — Mintons, Est. 1793, England — and the hand-painted pattern number A4707. Elegant, colorful, and unmistakably fine china.
History & Provenance
Minton, founded at Stoke-on-Trent in 1793, was one of the great names of English ceramics — supplier to royalty and a benchmark of quality for two centuries. This set carries the "Mintons England" globe mark used around the turn of the twentieth century, dating it to approximately 1900, with its pattern individually numbered by hand in the Minton tradition. The jeweled turquoise border and floral festoons belong to the opulent, historically-minded taste of the late Victorian and Edwardian table. More than a century on, genuine marked Minton like this remains prized by collectors and hosts alike.

Why It Belongs in Your Home
Fine antique china earns its place on any table or wall. Use the set for a considered tea or dessert course, stand them on a plate rail or in a cabinet, or hang them as a cluster of color and pattern. The turquoise-and-floral palette layers beautifully with other blue-and-white and famille-rose china, and the Minton name gives the set a pedigree a nameless plate can't match — a genuine, century-old piece of English elegance.
