Vintage Americana Beer Patch Collection, c.1970s-1980s

The Set

A group of four embroidered brewery patches: Budweiser, Busch Bavarian Beer, Schlitz Malt Liquor and Old Milwaukee Beer Team. Embroidered thread worked on a fabric and twill backing, in red, white, blue and cream.

Each patch holds its own graphic identity. The bold red Budweiser bowtie, the Busch eagle emblem, the Schlitz bull, and the old school crest styling of Old Milwaukee.

Across the group the edges have softened and light wear has set in, the surfaces carrying the age of objects that were made to be sewn onto something and used.

History & Provenance

The patches date to about the 1970s into the 1980s, the era of branded workwear, bar culture, back road jackets and garage toolboxes, when brewery graphics reached their widest circulation on cloth.

They appear to be original vintage patches rather than modern reproductions. The wear pattern, the edge fraying and the age of the backings support that reading.

Taken together they read less like loose memorabilia than a compact slice of American advertising history, four of the most recognizable beer graphics of the late twentieth century in one group.
