Product Overview
The Piece
A vintage French parquetry wood trivet, c. 1960s.
Octagonal form with mixed wood inlay arranged in a dimensional cube-pattern design.
Green felt underside with partial original paper label reading “France.”
This mid-century trivet features a classic tumbling block parquetry pattern, created through alternating light, medium, and dark wood sections. The geometric arrangement gives the surface a three-dimensional effect, with each wood tone forming the illusion of stacked cubes radiating from the center.
The piece is finished with a glossy protective surface and backed in green felt, making it both functional and decorative. The partial underside label suggests French origin, though the maker name is no longer fully legible. A small but handsome table accessory, because apparently the 1960s understood that even protecting a table could be done with more taste than most modern furniture catalogs can manage.

Condition + Updates
Good vintage condition with age-appropriate surface wear. The parquetry top remains intact with visible gloss and strong contrast between the mixed wood tones. Minor edge wear, small finish marks, and light underside wear are present. The green felt backing shows scuffs and the original paper label is partially torn, though “France” remains visible.
Why This Belongs in Your Home
This piece works beautifully as a small functional accent for a bar cart, coffee service, kitchen shelf, console, or layered tabletop arrangement. The geometric wood pattern adds warmth and movement without feeling overly decorative, making it easy to place in mid-century, collected traditional, organic modern, or European-inspired interiors.
It is especially strong as a styling piece for anyone who likes objects that are useful, sculptural, and quietly well-made. A tiny table protector doing more visual work than half the furniture currently being sold as “artisan.”
