Product Overview

The Piece

A complete vintage Brunswick Black Beauty bowling ball set housed in its original mid-century Colonial No. 7501 carrying case.

The ball itself is molded black phenolic resin and marked Brunswick Black Beauty, a classic Brunswick line widely used during the height of American bowling culture in the mid-20th century.

The case features a structured molded shell with stitched handle straps, brass zipper hardware, and an internal metal cradle designed to secure the ball during transport.

Unlike many surviving bowling balls that have been separated from their equipment over the decades, this set remains intact with its original case and interior support rack.

Even better, the ball remains fully usable. Vintage Brunswick balls like this were built to withstand thousands of games and can still be used today at modern bowling alleys.

Historical Context

After World War II, bowling exploded in popularity across the United States. By the 1950s and 1960s, bowling leagues were a staple of American social life, with companies like Brunswick leading the industry in both equipment and lane manufacturing.

The Brunswick Black Beauty line became one of the company’s recognizable bowling balls during this era. Made from durable phenolic materials, these balls were engineered for performance long before the modern urethane and reactive resin balls used today.

Carrying cases like the Colonial No. 7501 allowed bowlers to bring their personal ball to league nights and tournaments. Today these sets remain iconic artifacts of mid-century American recreation.

Why It Belongs in Your Home

Vintage sporting equipment has become increasingly collectible because it represents a specific era of American leisure culture.

This set works equally well as:

• a decorative object in a game room or bar
• a conversation piece in an office or lounge
• functional vintage equipment still capable of being used

Unlike many decorative sports objects, this piece is not purely ornamental. The Brunswick Black Beauty ball can still be used on modern bowling lanes, giving it both historical value and practical function.

Few surviving examples remain with the original case and ball together, making the set far more complete and display-worthy than a loose ball alone.

Condition

Good vintage condition.

Case remains structurally sound with working zipper and intact handle straps. Light wear consistent with age and use is visible throughout.

Interior cradle remains intact and holds the ball securely.

Bowling ball shows minor scuffs typical of vintage sporting equipment but remains solid and usable.
