The Vase
A vintage art glass bud vase with a rich ruby-red body, an elongated teardrop profile, a narrow neck and a dramatically flared rim. The saturated red glass is balanced by a substantial clear square pedestal base, which gives the piece a sculptural, jewel-like presence.
The vase rises from that clear pedestal through a rounded ruby body and narrows into a long, slender neck before opening into a broad flared mouth with a softly ruffled, irregular edge. The hand-shaped rim introduces subtle asymmetry and movement against the otherwise controlled vertical silhouette.
The deep ruby coloration shifts with the light, reading nearly black along the thicker edges and glowing bright crimson where the glass is most translucent. The clear base visually lifts the darker body and sets color against transparency.
History & Provenance
The vase reflects the decorative art glass traditions of the mid to late twentieth century, when bold color, elongated silhouettes and sculptural forms became increasingly prominent in modern interiors.
There is no original label, signature or documented factory mark, so the attribution is deliberately conservative: unidentified vintage art glass, with origin unconfirmed and a date of c. 1960s to 1980s arrived at from the form and the idiom alone.
The irregularity of the rim and the subtle variation in the body are consistent with individually worked decorative glass rather than a fully mechanized process. Provenance is a private collection, with no further history known.
