The Piece
A rare vintage tube of Spalding “Carlton” Plastic Shuttlecocks, produced for the North American market circa the early–mid 1960s. Distributed by A. G. Spalding & Bros. of Chicopee, Massachusetts, this tube was made in England by Carlton Sports, one of the pioneering British manufacturers of synthetic shuttlecocks. The bright blue and navy colorway and bold typography reflect the classic design language of mid-century sporting goods packaging—sturdy, practical, and instantly recognizable on the shelf.

History & Provenance
During the post-war badminton boom, Spalding—long a leader in U.S. sporting goods—licensed and imported British-made Carlton shuttlecocks to supply American recreational clubs and school programs. Carlton was among the first to perfect molded plastic shuttlecocks, offering greater durability than feathered types. This collaboration lasted into the late 1960s, making these early tubes a nostalgic collectible from badminton’s mid-century golden age.
Condition
Very good vintage condition with light surface creasing and wear to label edges; colors remain bright, typography crisp, and seams intact. A fine display piece for collectors of vintage sports memorabilia or mid-century packaging design.
