Bridge Tables & Novelties Folding Card Table — Fox Hunting Scene, c. 1940s
Walnut Veneer Frame • Lithographic Pictorial Top • Folding X-Leg Base
A quintessential piece of American mid-century utility design, this folding card table was produced by Bridge Tables & Novelties, Inc. of Lowell, Massachusetts—later known as Topper Products. Crafted in the 1930s–40s, the table features a vivid fox-hunting scene lithograph mounted beneath varnish, bordered in warm walnut veneer, and supported by a sculpted X-fold hardwood base that collapses neatly for storage.
History
Bridge Tables & Novelties was among the earliest American companies to transform bridge tables from simple game furniture into decorative, multipurpose accent pieces. Their tables captured the era’s fascination with traditional British leisure motifs—equestrian hunts, floral still lifes, and pastoral scenes—translating them into accessible, artful home décor. Made in Lowell, Massachusetts, each table combined machine precision with hand-finished edges and lacquered surfaces, designed for both entertaining and display.

Placement & Styling
A charming relic of mid-century entertaining culture, this table works beautifully as a cocktail stand, accent surface, or wall-mounted art piece when folded. Its nostalgic imagery complements equestrian, cottage, English country, or mid-century eclectic interiors, while the compact design adds a touch of Americana to modern spaces. Pair it with a decanter set, leather-bound books, or vintage playing cards for a complete period vignette.
