Mid-Century Woodland Cottage Landscape
Signed L. Trask | Oil on Canvas Board
The Piece
A richly textured mid-century oil landscape depicting a woodland stream leading toward a rustic cottage nestled among dense trees. Executed in heavy impasto with pronounced palette knife work, the foliage and grasses are built up in layered, sculptural strokes, giving the surface strong dimensionality and light movement.
Signed lower left “L. Trask,” the work reflects the expressive decorative landscape tradition popular in mid-20th-century American interiors.

Historical Context
Mid-century decorative landscapes were a staple of American homes from the 1950s through the 1970s. These works emphasized atmosphere, texture, and romantic natural scenery over academic realism.
While “L. Trask” does not correspond to a documented, auction-tracked artist, the painting embodies the strong decorative oil tradition of the period — bold surface texture, saturated greens, and intimate pastoral subject matter designed to anchor a room.
Condition
Very good vintage condition.
Paint surface stable with intact impasto. Minor age-appropriate wear to frame. Linen liner clean. Structurally sound and ready to hang.
