The Design

A beautifully refinished oak slant-front secretary desk with a drop-down writing surface, fitted interior compartments, lower drawers, and slender cabriole-style legs. The form is compact but architectural, designed to function as both a writing desk and a small storage cabinet.

The oak has been brightened and refinished, bringing out the grain and giving the piece a warmer, cleaner surface while preserving its traditional silhouette. The fitted interior includes open cubbies, small drawers, and divided compartments for letters, stationery, documents, or whatever paper-based chaos civilization still insists on keeping.

Updated hardware gives the desk a more finished presence: a substantial brass handle has been added to the larger drawer, period-appropriate drawer knobs have been installed, and a small 1920s handle has been added to the slant front for easier access. The result is practical, handsome, and still faithful to the piece’s age and character.

This desk is consistent with mid-20th-century traditional revival furniture, likely c. 1940s–1950s, with oak construction, cabriole-style legs, a slant-front writing surface, fitted interior compartments, and decorative apron detailing.

The piece has been refinished and brightened. Hardware has been thoughtfully updated, including a new heavy brass handle, time-appropriate drawer knobs, and a small 1920s handle added to the slant front for easier opening.
