The Piece
A Boston three hole paper punch, cast metal, with a gray body and a red handle grip.
The guide bar is adjustable and carries clean measurement markings with hole center indications and an On and Off setting. The base is weighted so the punch stays put under pressure, and the mechanical components are left exposed in the manner of honest office equipment.
It is marked "Boston" and "3 Hole Std."
History & Provenance
Boston is a long established American name in desktop office equipment, and a punch of this weight was built for daily commercial use rather than occasional household duty.
The cast body, the adjustable guide bar with its printed scale, the gray finish and the red handle place this example in the 1970s, when office tools were still made heavy enough to be left on a desk and expected to last.

Why It Belongs in Your Home
The appeal here is weight and honesty. A cast metal punch with a red handle and an exposed mechanism looks like what it does, which is the quality that makes late century industrial office equipment worth keeping on a desk.
It remains usable, so it can earn its place in a study or home office rather than only occupying it. The gray and red reads graphically against wood and paper.
For a styled workspace, or a shelf of analog office tools, it supplies utility and a strong silhouette in a small footprint.
