The Piece
A vintage Italian mirrored wall candle sconce, c. 1950s-60s.
Stained wood frame with arched crest, narrow mirror back, projecting candle platform, and brass-tone candle cup with gallery rail.
Marked “Made in Italy” on the reverse mirror backing.
This late mid-century wall sconce references earlier Georgian and Federal candle mirror forms, designed to place a taper candle in front of a mirrored back so the light reflects upward and outward. The arched wood frame, warm reddish-brown finish, and brass-tone hardware give the piece a traditional revival character, while the compact scale makes it easy to place in a hallway, powder room, bedroom, library, or layered gallery wall.
The front presents with a narrow mirrored glass panel, shaped wood surround, rounded candle shelf, central brass-tone candle socket, and curved protective gallery rail. The back shows the original wall-hanging construction and a visible “Made in Italy” mark, supporting its identification as Italian decorative export ware from the 1950s-60s.

Condition + Updates
Good vintage condition with age-appropriate wear. The wood frame presents well with light surface marks, small scratches, finish variation, and minor rubbing consistent with age and use. The brass-tone candle cup and rail show natural patina and tarnish. The mirror is intact with visible age-related surface wear. The reverse shows original construction, mounting wear, adhesive residue, and the “Made in Italy” marking.
Why This Belongs in Your Home
This sconce brings old-world warmth into a space without demanding a full haunted manor commitment, which is generous of it. The mirrored back reflects candlelight beautifully, while the wood and brass-tone details add traditional depth to a wall, shelf vignette, entryway, powder room, or bedroom corner.
It works especially well in collected interiors that mix antique, vintage, European, cottage, traditional, romantic, or moody design elements. Use it with an LED taper for easy ambient styling or a real taper candle when attended. Either way, it gives a room atmosphere, which is apparently still legal despite modern lighting trying its hardest to flatten everything into a dentist office.
