The Piece
An original floral still life by Kat Allibe, signed and dated 1989. This work captures a bouquet of roses rendered with energetic linework and layered color, balancing delicacy with motion. The composition is structured but lively: petals are defined by confident contour lines, while greens and pinks are built up in quick, expressive passes that give the arrangement depth without realism for realism’s sake.
Created decades before the cosmic portrait narratives that define much of her current body of work, this piece reads as an early foundation: the same clarity of hand, the same instinct for movement, and a palette already leaning into emotional color rather than literal depiction. It is a rare opportunity to own an early, signed example from an artist who is actively producing and selling work today.
The painting is framed in a period-appropriate teal/verdigris frame with a gold liner, a presentation that complements the greens in the foliage and gives the piece a finished, architectural edge.
Design & Construction
Artwork
→ Artist: Kat Allibe
→ Date: 1989 (signed and dated)
→ Medium: Original painting / mixed media floral still life (hand-drawn line + layered color)
→ Subject: Rose bouquet in a low vessel
The work is built around line as structure. The stems and leaves create a rhythmic lattice that carries the composition upward, while the roses provide soft, geometric anchors. The background remains intentionally quiet, keeping the bouquet as the focal form.
Framing
→ Late 20th-century frame, consistent with date
→ Teal/verdigris finish with gold liner
→ Clean, wide presentation that photographs extremely well
Condition
→ Painting presents cleanly with no obvious losses visible in photos
→ Signature/date crisp and legible
→ Frame shows normal vintage character consistent with age
Why It Belongs in Your Home
This is floral art for people who don’t want “cute floral art.” It has enough softness to warm a space, but enough line and contrast to hold its own in a more collected, modern interior. It pairs especially well with brass, dark wood, and layered gallery walls, and it works beautifully where you want calm without blandness.
Ideal for:
→ A bedroom, dressing area, or hallway
→ A living space that needs one grounded focal point
→ Layering with antique frames, ceramics, and textiles
