The Piece
The figure in this painting has no face, and that is the entire proposition. Allibe's rule is that a picture is finished not when there is nothing left to add but when there is nothing left to define, and Becoming is where she takes the rule furthest: identity dissolved rather than described, the labels stripped off before something new has fully arrived.
Read the surface as accumulation. Each layer of oil stands for a life lived, each colour for a lesson, and the artist works them over one another until the earlier states show through the later ones. At thirty-six by forty-eight inches the effect is architectural — the figure occupies the canvas the way a person occupies a doorway. A third of the surface is deliberately left to breathe, which is what keeps a painting this size from becoming oppressive in a room.
History & Provenance
Kat Allibe is a French-born contemporary painter working in Reno, Nevada, and the originator of Emotional Impressionism. She painted privately for over thirty years — more than 150 works, almost none of them sold — before entering formal study at the Milan Art Institute in 2025.
Viridian Eclection is her private dealer. This painting comes directly from the studio, with a certificate of authenticity issued and signed by the artist.

Why It Belongs in Your Home
A faceless figure at this scale is the rare large painting that does not compete with the people in the room. It holds a wall with authority and still leaves the space habitable — which is precisely the brief in a dining room, a stairwell, or a bedroom where a portrait would feel like company you did not invite.
Available for private viewing at The Morris Hotel Building, Reno. Trade and design enquiries welcome.

White-glove delivery is complimentary within 100 miles of Reno, NV. National shipping quotes provided at checkout. All shipments are photographed and documented. Damage claims must be filed with the carrier; we provide all documentation needed to support your claim.
Local pickup is available at Viridian HQ (Reno, NV) with 2–4 days notice. Contact us to arrange. Private viewings also available.
All antique and vintage items are sold as described and all sales are final. Each listing includes detailed condition notes and photographs so you can make a fully informed decision. We encourage buyers to ask questions — about condition, dimensions, finish, provenance — before purchasing.
Antiques are irreplaceable and one-of-a-kind. Carrier handling is outside our control once a piece has left our facility, and major carriers including FedEx do not insure antiques. We do everything within our power to ensure safe transit, but cannot accept liability for carrier damage. If damage occurs in transit, we will provide full documentation to support your carrier claim.
Have a question? — we're happy to provide additional photos, condition detail, or discuss the piece directly.
