The Piece
Mixed media on canvas, thirty by forty inches. The subject is Esmeralda, called Lumière — the guiding light — a figure the artist draws from the Gitan communities of southern France, where she is from.
Two details carry the painting. The headwrap is treated as a crown rather than a covering, built up in the heaviest impasto in the group. The gold at the ears catches light against a warm ochre ground — the single emotional colour doing its work, and here it is literal: the inner fire that cannot be put out. This is the most culturally located painting Allibe has made, and one of the few where the figure meets the viewer rather than turning away. Her theme is one she has lived: that adaptation is not betrayal, and that an identity which bends is not an identity lost.
History & Provenance
Kat Allibe is a French-born contemporary painter working in Reno, Nevada, and the originator of Emotional Impressionism. She painted privately for over thirty years, producing more than 150 works that never entered the market, before entering formal study at the Milan Art Institute in 2025.

Why It Belongs in Your Home
The warmest palette in the collection, and the easiest to live with. It sits naturally against wood, leather, kilim and aged brass — the material language of a collected interior rather than a decorated one — and the direct gaze makes it a better fit for a room people gather in than the turned figures, which want more solitude.
Available for private viewing at The Morris Hotel Building, Reno. Trade and design enquiries welcome.

All antique and vintage items are sold as described and all sales are final. Each listing includes detailed condition notes and photographs so you can make a fully informed decision. We encourage buyers to ask questions — about condition, dimensions, finish, provenance — before purchasing.
Antiques are irreplaceable and one-of-a-kind. Carrier handling is outside our control once a piece has left our facility, and major carriers including FedEx do not insure antiques. We do everything within our power to ensure safe transit, but cannot accept liability for carrier damage. If damage occurs in transit, we will provide full documentation to support your carrier claim.
Have a question? — we're happy to provide additional photos, condition detail, or discuss the piece directly.
