Ayaan Ismail was born into a long line of Somali royalty and raised to embody a lineage rather than a self. On the outside she is draped in fine fabric and functions as a symbol; the painting is about the person underneath the role.
Allibe gives the textiles the most detailed handling on the canvas and the figure the least — a deliberate inversion that makes the point without stating it. The fabric is worked, patterned and reopened; the face stays unresolved. A twenty-four inch square, and one of the richest surfaces in the collection at this scale.
History & Provenance
Kat Allibe is a French-born contemporary painter working in Reno, Nevada, and the originator of Emotional Impressionism. She painted privately for over thirty years — more than 150 works, almost none of them sold — before entering formal study at the Milan Art Institute in 2025.
Viridian Eclection is her private dealer. This painting comes directly from the studio, with a certificate of authenticity issued and signed by the artist.
