The Piece
A mid-century sectional serving tray consisting of three curved ceramic pieces designed to form a circular serving arrangement.
Each section features a sculpted relief pattern resembling stylized foliage, finished in a glossy green glaze typical of California pottery from the 1950s. When arranged together, the pieces create a complete ring-shaped tray with a central opening.
The design allows each section to function independently or as part of the full serving set.
Historical Context
California pottery studios flourished during the mid-20th century, producing colorful ceramics designed for casual entertaining and modern homes.
Companies across Los Angeles and Southern California created decorative serving pieces that balanced sculptural design with practical function. Sectional trays like this one reflected the post-war shift toward informal gatherings and cocktail culture.
The vibrant glazes and organic patterns typical of California ceramics became iconic elements of mid-century tableware.
