The Design
A set of three mid-century ceramic serving dishes by Lane & Co. of Van Nuys, California, formed in a sweeping shell silhouette with ribbed fan-like channels and a soft ivory glaze. Each dish curves dramatically from a narrow tapered end into a scalloped shell rim, giving the set movement, depth, and a sculptural quality beyond ordinary tableware. Miraculous, really, that a serving dish can have more architecture than half the buildings going up now.
The glaze is warm cream with subtle speckling and age-softened tonal variation. The shell form feels distinctly 1960s California: decorative, organic, and quietly theatrical, equally suited for serving, display, or layered shelf styling.
Sold as a set of three, the pieces nest and stack beautifully, creating a rhythmic sculptural profile when grouped.
Condition & Provenance
Marked Lane Van Nuys Calif. U.S.A. on the underside, identifying the maker as Lane & Co., a California pottery producer associated with mid-century decorative ceramics.
The set is consistent with c. 1960s California pottery, with molded shell forms, glossy ivory glaze, and organic modern styling.
Vintage condition with visible crazing, light surface wear, small speckles, and minor age-related glaze variation. At least one piece appears to show a small rim nick or glaze loss. Best suited for decorative use, dry service, or styled tabletop presentation.
Dimensions
Petite serving dish scale. Exact measurements to be added.

Why It Belongs In Your Home
This set brings a distinctly California mid-century softness to the table: curved, organic, and sculptural without feeling overly delicate. The ivory glaze makes the pieces easy to layer with ironstone, brass, dark wood, crystal, linen, or warm-toned ceramics.
Use them for olives, nuts, citrus wedges, cocktail garnishes, soaps, jewelry, wrapped candies, or simply as a nested decorative grouping. Their appeal is in the silhouette: part shell, part fan, part little ceramic flourish that makes a table look intentional instead of merely occupied by bowls.
Every piece is packed with professional-grade materials: multiple foam layers, double-boxing, directional and fragile handling labels. For large furniture we use custom timber crating. We photograph packing before dispatch and can provide images on request.
White-glove delivery is complimentary within 100 miles of Reno, NV. National shipping quotes provided at checkout. All shipments are photographed and documented. Damage claims must be filed with the carrier; we provide all documentation needed to support your claim.
Local pickup is available at Viridian HQ (Reno, NV) with 2–4 days notice. Contact us to arrange. Private viewings also available.
All antique and vintage items are sold as described and all sales are final. Each listing includes detailed condition notes and photographs so you can make a fully informed decision. We encourage buyers to ask questions — about condition, dimensions, finish, provenance — before purchasing.
Antiques are irreplaceable and one-of-a-kind. Carrier handling is outside our control once a piece has left our facility, and major carriers including FedEx do not insure antiques. We do everything within our power to ensure safe transit, but cannot accept liability for carrier damage. If damage occurs in transit, we will provide full documentation to support your carrier claim.
Have a question? — we're happy to provide additional photos, condition detail, or discuss the piece directly.
