Mixed media on a thirty-six inch square. The artist's own line for this one is the shortest in the series: the space between who she was and who she was becoming.
What makes it work as a painting rather than a slogan is that Allibe refuses to resolve the moment. The figure is caught before the step, not after it, and the surface is worked accordingly — layers built and partially removed, scraped passages opening earlier colour back up, the transition still visibly in progress on the canvas itself. The method and the subject are the same thing here. She is not walking away from anything. She is walking toward herself, and the picture stops at the instant before we find out what that costs.
History & Provenance
Kat Allibe is a French-born contemporary painter working in Reno, Nevada, and the originator of Emotional Impressionism. She painted privately for over thirty years, producing more than 150 works that never entered the market, before entering formal study at the Milan Art Institute in 2025.
Viridian Eclection is her private dealer. This painting comes directly from the studio, with a certificate of authenticity issued and signed by the artist.
